The Bamboo Rooms x Terri’s Happy Hounds

At The Bamboo Rooms, we believe in giving back to the community that has inspired and supported us. That’s why we’ve chosen Terri’s Happy Hounds as our charity of choice. Proceeds from Ajarn Keng’s sacred Buddhist Sak Yant blessings and our temple visits will go directly to supporting Terri and her tireless efforts to care for Koh Samui’s stray dogs.

Temple Visits with a Purpose

As part of our offerings, we take guests to the temple to receive a personal blessing. The cost for this experience is 1,000 baht, with 50% of the donation going directly to the temple and the remaining 50% supporting Terri’s Happy Hounds. This allows us to give back to the spiritual community while helping to improve the lives of Koh Samui’s stray dogs.

Why Terri?

We know Terri personally and have witnessed her dedication and compassion firsthand. Her tireless efforts over the past 17 years have made a tangible difference in the lives of countless stray dogs. We trust her implicitly and know that every penny donated goes directly to helping the dogs. There is no overhead or administrative cost—just pure love and commitment to these animals.

Who is Terri?

Terri moved to Koh Samui over 17 years ago and quickly recognised the plight of the island’s stray dogs. As she observed injured, sick, and malnourished animals roaming the streets, she realized the dire need for help. Driven by compassion, Terri began her mission, learning as she went and working closely with local vets, shelters, and organizations. Her efforts have saved countless lives, focusing on healing injuries, treating illnesses, and ensuring vaccinations and sterilisations for the dogs under her care.

The Challenges of a Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges to Koh Samui. With businesses closing and tourism grinding to a halt, many migrant and Thai workers lost their jobs and were forced to leave the island. Along with them went the care they provided to the street dogs—leftover food from restaurants, meals offered during work commutes, and the general support from the community disappeared overnight. This abandonment left thousands of dogs to fend for themselves.

Terri’s workload doubled. Today, she cares for 87 dogs across 16 locations, ensuring they receive food, medical care, vaccinations, and sterilizations. Her work is now a full-time, 365-days-a-year labor of love.

How You Can Help

Terri’s Happy Hounds relies entirely on the generosity of donors and volunteers. You can make a difference by contributing in the following ways:

  • Donations: Funds for food, medicine, and medical care are urgently needed. (Receipts provided for all donations.)
  • Volunteering: Help deliver food on her 5km Lamai Jungle route, assist with shopping and cooking, or provide hands-on support.
